Identity Politics | The Downward Spiral of the Democrats

The democratic party continued to inadvertently expose and shame itself during the past midterm elections. The way they tried to guilt black people into voting was truly a memorable disgrace. All this proves that the Democrats still don’t get it. The liberals keep losing ground because they are losing in the “promises made and results” department when it comes to specific voters, primarily the black community who’s vote they depend on. And they are losing numbers and support due to their weird unwavering focus on identity politics in everything they do.

What exactly do the liberals stand for? Lately, everything seems to be for the goal of taking down Trump, or voting for someone because they’re gay, black, brown or a woman. Who cares what candidates identify as? More importantly, what are they going to do? And if politicians of old have shown us anything, it’s that being black means absolutely nothing if they aren’t promising and delivering anything to black people. Period. The democratic party relies heavily on the black vote, but keeps pushing them last on the priority list. Yet without fail the party always seems to have a renewed but ephemeral interest in the black community, right around election time.

Oprah and an onslaught of black celebrities who don’t normally do much for black people came out and laid it on thick to get black people to vote. However, they avoided telling black people why. Oprah stumped for Stacy Abrams. However, if you check her own website and history she has done a lot more for the LGBT movement than black people. So, if you want to vote for her that’s fine, but why are we guilt-tripping black people? Oprah said that blacks would be disgracing their ancestors if they didn’t vote. I prefer to think that obediently working lock-and-step in the system that keeps blacks last on the priority list is what would disgrace them.

Nowadays the party seems mostly concerned with feminism, LGBT issues, and now even immigration.

With each victory the Democrats were spouting nothing but “hooray…the youngest” this, “hoorah, the first black” that, and literally, “yeah, the first gay Native American” this. But again, who are these people and what are they going to do? Why the nonstop celebrating of people’s identities? This is the democratic MO of late. And yes, it’s weird.

Media personality Roland Martin seems to be the black liberal go-to guy for black American input in mainstream media. And he went on an angry tirade against Tariq Nasheed and other independent black public figures who stated publicly that they didn’t vote. Martin’s attack was an ill-conceived mistake. He’s talking mostly to clueless people his age and up, and proved he’s not really in touch with younger generations or how they think. He condescendingly inferred that they and any other black people who didn’t vote were stupid. In the end, it came off as Martin’s coup to cement himself as the premier legitimate black voice. To the intelligent black youth, Martin is merely a stooge who is part of the system.

Roland Martin angrily condemned black non-voters not acknowledging that many of them have been voting in the past to no avail. When communities see no change, it’s the system letting them down and there is a pervasive distrust of politicians. Why must they be shamed? People should just vote without knowing the candidates, having an agenda and simply join in with the identity politicking? Just continue to vote for Democrats because they’re “minorities” or Democrats? If the democratic politicians want the black vote then they should have communicated directly with black communities and appealed to them with promises and reasons they should be voted for. If black voters or any demographic fails to show up, then it’s most probably because that candidate failed to excite or connect with that demographic, and perhaps they should strategize for the future. However, Martin seems to believe that black people need to be shamed and reprimanded for not just doing what they’re told. This is exactly part of the many reasons why Martin and his ilk are out-of-touch and are being slowly phased out.

It’s been said many times that the parties play “good cop bad cop” at many times throughout history. And the conservatives are known nowadays for being the more heartless and bigoted. Lately, however, it seems as though it’s the democrats that have a lot of soul-searching to do. Especially when it comes to respecting black people.

I get it. The Democrats are continuing to brand themselves as the party of acceptance and inclusiveness. However, they’re going too far and alienating lots of people, including many in their own base. For instance, many decent people support gay rights and abortion, strictly because they want equal rights for all citizens. However, the in-your-face politicized sexuality stunts with 2 women kissing being celebrated triumphantly at political events aren’t what people signed up for. And labeling everyone on the Right racist bigots with the presumption that everyone on the Left isn’t, is not too good either.

There seems to be no sane middle ground anymore. On the Right propagandized zombies are worshipping an unhinged, pathologically dishonest war-mongerer who just dispatched the full might of the US military to meet a small caravan of poor migrants. The caravan turned out to be a huge exaggeration, purposely exaggerated for the election season. So the Right has long gone wild in its own…right.  And the Left is off-kilter in the opposite direction. They are dropping everything to offer support and promises to people coming in who aren’t even citizens of the country. They have also gone full-blown identity politics, promoting candidates primarily because of their minority status. And it has become the party of “get Trump by any means necessary”.  A party whose members feel they have the moral high ground so they unconsciously do terrible things to achieve results in the name of “good”, even take down attempts via sexual assault accusation. A party that rolls out black celebrities every election season in the hopes of titillating black people the way parents roll out clowns or Spiderman at children’s birthday parties. A party that showed blacks images of slain black teens like Trayvon Martin to emotionally compromise them into voting. Yeah, that part. With many people on the Right playing their role as the bad guys, there are many automatically assuming the Left are the good guys. Just not everybody.
